Board takes up a price rise for every school meal

What happened

At its June 8, 2026 meeting the board took up a school district lunch increase for all meals as an action item, brought by the division's operations officer.

Why it matters to families

Meal prices are one of the few school costs a family pays directly, every day, for every child who buys lunch. A rise applied to all meals lands on every paying family at once.

The evidence

The board's published meeting index lists item K.1 on June 8, 2026 as "School District Lunch Increase for All Meals - Patrick Barnes", marked as an action item. The index gives item titles only: the new prices, the size of the increase and the vote are not published there. In September 2025 staff had briefed the board on the Community Eligibility Provision, the federal programme that lets high-poverty schools serve all meals at no charge, but the index does not say how the two relate.
