Weston Public Schools — Day-to-day

Over roughly the past year, Weston Public Schools has been reshaping the day-to-day rules and structures that shape student life. The School Committee kicked things off in November 2025 by approving and implementing a new Competency Determination Policy, updating graduation requirements in response to a change in state policy. That was followed in January 2026 by a plan from Weston High School to require students to keep phones in their lockers bell-to-bell beginning in fall 2026, limiting phone use throughout the school day.

The spring brought two more consequential changes. In March 2026, the committee ratified its agreement with the Weston Education Association, clearing the way for the new secondary schedule. Then in May 2026, the district announced it would expand social-emotional screening district-wide, K-12, after a pilot screened 337 students and flagged 58 at elevated or extremely elevated risk; the broader rollout is planned for the next school year.

Taken together, these moves point to a year of structural change at Weston—new graduation expectations, a quieter school day, a reworked schedule, and stronger screening for student well-being—with the fall 2026 rollout bringing several of them into effect at once.
