What happened

In May 2026 a parent told the board that the district uses Gaggle, a third-party tool that applies artificial intelligence to pupils' school email and files looking for signs of self-harm or bullying, and said parents had not been properly informed. The superintendent undertook to follow up; the board took no action. By August 2026 the board was discussing a formal classroom artificial-intelligence framework tied to its acceptable-use policy, with administrators saying a draft was in development and that they hoped to have it sooner than the second quarter of 2027, and acknowledging that classroom use of artificial intelligence currently varies widely by teacher and subject.

Why it matters to families

Two different things are happening here and both affect families directly: software is already reading what children write on school accounts, and there is still no adopted rule about how children may use artificial intelligence for their schoolwork. Parents who want to know either the monitoring terms or the homework rules do not yet have a published answer.
