Director quits in a split vote and the board drops its term limit

High-risk

What happened

At its June 16, 2026 meeting the governing board accepted the resignation of director Taylor Smith by a vote of 2 to 1, with board chair Todd German voting no. That left four voting directors. At the same meeting the board changed its bylaws to remove the 15-year limit on how long a director may serve.

Why it matters to families

Four unpaid, appointed directors now hold the charters for this campus and for roughly a hundred Somerset schools in several states. Parents cannot vote them in or out. A split vote on a resignation, and the removal of a term limit, both change who holds that power and for how long.

The evidence

The minutes record the motion to accept the resignation by Ana Mendez, seconded by David Concepcion, with Todd German denying, and the motion passing 2-1. It is the only non-unanimous vote in the two years of minutes the board has published. The same minutes list the bylaws amendment under the annual re-approval of board policies as amended to remove the 15-year term limit. The board's public roster now lists four voting directors.
