The phone rule and the AI rule are both incomplete as published

What happened

Roxbury's published device policy, last edited in July 2026, says only that pupils' personal use of phones and similar devices during the school day and school activities 'should be limited', including on buses and at before and after-school programmes. It contains no statement that a phone must be off or where it must be kept, and no consequences; those sit in a companion regulation the district does not publish alongside it. Separately, the academic integrity policy revised in June 2026 lists 'using generative artificial intelligence (AI) in violation of Policy 2365 and the district's AI Plan' as an act of academic dishonesty - but neither Policy 2365 nor the AI Plan is published where this service can find it.

Why it matters to families

A parent can be told their child broke the phone rule or misused artificial intelligence, and then cannot read the rule they broke. In both cases the district's published policy points at a second document that is not published, which is the practical problem rather than the content of either rule.

The evidence

Policy 5516, Use of Electronic Communication Devices, created October 2013 and edited July 2026, states that pupil use of such devices for personal use 'during the school day and school activities should be limited', extends that to before and after-school programmes, co-curricular activities and school buses, and carves out documented plan and health-monitoring exceptions; it contains no off-or-stored requirement and no consequence schedule. Policy 5701, Academic Integrity, revised 15 June 2026, lists as prohibited 'Using generative artificial intelligence (AI) in violation of Policy 2365 and the district's AI Plan'. Neither Policy 2365 nor an AI Plan appears among the documents the district publishes.
