Board takes up a new student code of conduct

What happened

The Manassas City School Board discussed a Student Code of Conduct at its July 14, 2026 business meeting and put it to a vote as an action item on July 28, 2026. The code of conduct is the rulebook that says what behaviour is expected at school and what happens when a rule is broken. Earlier in the year, on Feb. 5, 2026, the board took a 'Cell Phone Ban Update' at its work session, and in July and August it worked through revisions to policy sections covering students, instruction, personnel and school-community relations.

Why it matters to families

The code of conduct decides how discipline works for every student in the division, so it is the document families are most likely to be handed and least likely to read. The published record shows the board taking it up and voting on it, but not what the code says or what changed from the previous version, so parents should read the version their school issues for 2026-27.

The board's published meeting index lists 'Student Code of Conduct' as a discussion item at the July 14, 2026 Regular Business Meeting and as an action item at the July 28, 2026 Regular Business Meeting. It also lists 'Proposed Business - Cell Phone Ban Update' on the Feb. 5, 2026 work session agenda. The index carries item titles only; the code of conduct text is not published in it.
