What happened

The board took up an air handler replacement at Spotswood Elementary School in September 2025 and a boiler replacement at Harrisonburg High School in April 2026. It revisited the capital improvement plan in October 2025 and again in June 2026, and staff briefed it on summer campus improvement projects in August 2026.

Why it matters to families

Air handlers and boilers are what keep classrooms warm in winter and bearable in a heat wave. Replacing them one building at a time, rather than through a single funded programme, is a sign of an ageing set of buildings and it competes for the same money as everything else.
