Board adopts its ten-year building plan as the Grace Hopper Center opens

What happened

The board set direction for the FY 2027-36 Capital Improvement Plan in autumn 2025, received the superintendent's proposal on May 14, 2026, adopted its own proposed plan on May 28, held a public hearing on June 2 and a joint work session with the Arlington County Board on June 3, and adopted the plan on June 18, 2026. Across the same year it approved a Dominion Energy right of way, a construction contract change order and a deed of easement for the new Arlington Career Center facility, the Grace Hopper Center, whose opening and programme consolidation are funded in the FY 2027 budget.

Why it matters to families

The capital plan decides which Arlington schools get built, renovated or expanded over the next decade, and the county has to agree to borrow for it. The Grace Hopper Center is the division's biggest new building and moves career and technical programmes onto a single site.
