Board adopts a ten-year building plan and keeps George Mason rebuild moving

What happened

The board adopted the FY 2027-2036 Capital Improvement Program budget on Dec. 18, 2025 and adopted the CIP budget plan again on June 11, 2026. Alongside it the board approved three George Mason Elementary School modernization actions: a GMP 2 contract amendment on Oct. 9, 2025 'to advance the project completion on time and on budget', a further modernization contract on Dec. 18, 2025, and a GMP4 contract on March 26, 2026.

Why it matters to families

The capital plan decides which school buildings get rebuilt, expanded or repaired over the next ten years, and the George Mason project is the largest of them currently under construction. The proposed FY 2027 capital improvement program totals $340.37 million.
